What to Expect

If this is your first visit, Julia will chat with you about what you'd like to focus on, any concerns you may have, and work with you to determine the best course of treatment.  She'll feel your pulses and along your acupuncture meridians to determine your body's individual imbalances, and the best way to treat you.  She'll explain everything before she does it, and you have the right to say no at any time- it's your body!  She may use a combination of acupuncture, moxibustion, or cupping techniques depending on your needs. Once the acupuncture is in place, Julia will ensure that you’re comfortable and let you rest for approx. 30min.  She’ll give you a clicker button so you can call her if you need anything. Julia will ensure that by the end of the session you understand the recommended course of treatment moving forward. The first session will take up to 90 minutes, and all following sessions are typically one hour.

How to Prepare

  • If it is your first appointment, you'll need a few minutes to fill out some basic paperwork unless you've completed it beforehand.  Please bring a list of any medications you're taking.

  • If you're planning on using insurance or would like us to check your coverage, please bring your insurance card and ID with you.

  • Try to have a snack or small meal before you arrive (it's harder to move Qi if your body doesn't have any!).

  • Avoid excess caffeine.  Acupuncture puts your body in a state of relaxation to repair itself- this is more difficult if you're overly caffeinated.

  • Please try to refrain from using your cell phone during your treatment.  Commit to this hour as your time for healing.

  • Wear comfortable clothing.  If wearing pants, ensure they can be pushed up to the knees.  If you're wearing clothing that doesn't allow enough access to necessary acupuncture points, it will be possible to disrobe and cover yourself with sheets.
